Trip Overview

Chulu West (6419m) is one of Nepal's most rewarding trekking peaks, offering a perfect combination of high-altitude trekking and technical mountaineering in the spectacular Annapurna region. The route departs from Besisahar, traversing traditional Himalayan villages before reaching base camp at approximately 4,800m. The ascent demands competence in snow and ice climbing, glacier travel, and steep terrain, requiring appropriate technical equipment and physical preparation. Summit views encompass the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu ranges. Chulu West remains an ideal objective for experienced trekkers seeking to develop their Himalayan climbing credentials in a world-class alpine environment.

Detailed Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Thamel. The evening is free for rest and team introductions.

The day is dedicated to gear checks, permit processing, and pre-expedition briefings. Optional sightseeing includes Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, or Swayambhunath Stupa.

An early morning drive through scenic hill roads leads to Chame, the administrative headquarters of Manang District. Journey takes approximately 7–8 hours.
Drive Duration: 7–8 hrs

The trail follows the Marsyangdi River through dense pine forests, passing dramatic rock faces and offering the first close views of the Annapurna range.
Trek Duration: 5–6 hrs

The route climbs to Upper Pisang before continuing to the quiet, traditional village of Ngawal, offering panoramic views of Annapurna II, III, and Gangapurna.
Trek Duration: 4–5 hrs

A full rest day to allow the body to adjust to altitude. Short hikes to higher elevations are recommended to aid acclimatization. Briefings on summit strategy may also take place.
Trek Duration: Optional short hike 2–3 hrs

A moderate day's trek through open terrain and high pastures used seasonally by herders. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine as the trail gains elevation.
Trek Duration: 4–5 hrs

A demanding climb through rocky and glaciated terrain to establish high camp. Climbers gain significant altitude and must be well-acclimatized. Final gear checks are completed before the summit push.
 Trek Duration: 5–6 hrs

An alpine start in the early hours (typically 2:00–3:00 AM). The ascent involves steep snow and ice climbing with fixed ropes on exposed sections. Upon reaching the summit, climbers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu ranges. Descend to high camp, collect gear, and continue down to Ngawal.  Trek Duration: 12–14 hrs (summit day)

A buffer day reserved in the event of adverse weather or the need for an additional summit attempt. If not required, the day can be used for rest or local exploration.

Descend from Ngawal to Humde airstrip, then transfer by jeep or local vehicle to Besisahar along the Marsyangdi valley. A long but scenic day.
Duration: 3–4 hrs trek + 3–4 hrs drive

Return drive to Kathmandu through the Prithvi Highway. Arrive in the evening and transfer to hotel in Thamel. Drive Duration: 5–6 hrs

A free day for rest, gear storage or return, souvenir shopping, and celebration of a successful expedition. A farewell dinner may be arranged.
