Trip Overview

The Three Passes Trek is a high-altitude trekking circuit in the Everest (Khumbu) Region of Nepal. It is one of the most challenging teahouse treks in the Himalayas because it crosses three major mountain passes: Kongma La (5,535 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,360 m).

Unlike the standard trek to Everest Base Camp, this route forms a circular loop through different valleys and offers spectacular views of peaks such as Mount Everest.

Detailed Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, enjoy time to rest and recover from your international journey. Depending on your arrival schedule, you may explore nearby areas or relax at the hotel. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.

This day is reserved for trek preparation and permit arrangements. You can check your trekking equipment, meet your guide, and make any last-minute purchases if necessary. If time permits, you may explore cultural sites around Kathmandu.

An early morning scenic flight takes you to Lukla Airport, the gateway to the Everest region. After meeting the trekking crew, the journey begins with a pleasant walk through Sherpa villages, forests, and along the Dudh Koshi River until reaching Phakding.

The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and crosses several suspension bridges before entering Sagarmatha National Park. After a steady uphill climb, you reach Namche Bazaar, the main trading and cultural hub of the Everest region.

To adjust to the altitude, you take a short acclimatization hike to nearby viewpoints such as Everest View Hotel, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. The rest of the day can be spent exploring the vibrant town of Namche.

Leaving Namche, the trail offers beautiful views of Everest and surrounding peaks before descending to the Dudh Koshi River. A steady climb then brings you to Tengboche, famous for the historic Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the region.

The trail descends through rhododendron forests before crossing the Imja River and gradually ascending to Dingboche, a scenic village surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes.

Another acclimatization day helps your body adapt to higher altitude. You may hike to nearby viewpoints above the village to enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Today’s short trek leads through the upper Imja Valley to Chhukung, a small settlement beneath towering Himalayan peaks. The afternoon can be spent resting and preparing for the upcoming high pass crossing.

Today is one of the most challenging yet rewarding days as you cross Kongma La Pass, the highest of the three passes. From the top you enjoy spectacular views of glaciers and surrounding mountains before descending to Lobuche.

The trail continues along the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep. From here you trek to Everest Base Camp, the famous starting point for Everest expeditions, before returning to Gorak Shep.

Early in the morning you hike to Kala Patthar, one of the best viewpoints for sunrise over Mount Everest. After enjoying the spectacular panorama, the trek continues to Dzongla.

The trek crosses the glacier-covered Cho La Pass, connecting the Everest Base Camp valley with the Gokyo valley. After reaching the pass, descend carefully to Thagnak.

Walking along the edge of the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, you reach the beautiful lakeside settlement of Gokyo, famous for its stunning turquoise lakes.

An early morning hike to Gokyo Ri rewards you with one of the best panoramic views in the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Later you can explore the surrounding Gokyo Lakes.

Today you cross the scenic Renjo La Pass, offering spectacular views over the Everest range and Gokyo valley before descending into the remote village of Lungden.

The trail descends through the Bhote Koshi valley to the traditional Sherpa village of Thame, known for its rich mountaineering history.

A pleasant walk along the valley brings you back to Namche Bazaar, where you can relax and celebrate the completion of the high pass crossings.

Retrace your steps along the Dudh Koshi valley through forests and Sherpa villages until reaching Lukla, marking the final day of trekking.

Take a scenic mountain flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.

Free day for relaxation, sightseeing, or shopping in Kathmandu before departure.

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your international flight home.
