The Putha Hiunchuli (7,246 m) Expedition offers an excellent opportunity to climb one of Nepal’s highest trekking peaks in the remote Dhaulagiri region. Known as a technically straightforward 7,000-meter mountain, Putha Hiunchuli is ideal for climbers seeking high-altitude experience beyond 6,000 meters without extreme technical difficulty.
Putha Hiunchuli was first climbed in 1954 by Jimmy Roberts, a British explorer and a renowned mountaineer. With a moderately techincal route, stunning snow ridge, and a high success rate.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, complete Nepal entry visa formalities. Our expedition representative will greet you at the arrivals hall and assist with a private transfer to your deluxe hotel in Kathmandu. The remainder of the day is at leisure to rest, recover from international travel, and prepare for the expedition ahead.
This day is dedicated to final expedition preparations. A comprehensive equipment inspection is conducted to ensure all personal and technical gear meets high-altitude climbing standards. The expedition leader provides a detailed briefing covering route plans, safety protocols, weather considerations, and logistics. Any last-minute shopping or gear adjustments can be arranged.
Fly westward from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, Nepal’s gateway to the remote Far West Himalaya. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. The warmer lowland climate provides a striking contrast to the alpine environment ahead. Rest and prepare for the onward journey into the Dolpo region.
An early morning scenic flight takes you to Jhupal, the entry point to Lower Dolpo. From Jhupal, a drive leads to Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpo. This marks the beginning of the expedition’s remote and culturally rich approach. Overnight in Dunai.
The trek officially begins, following the Bheri River through terraced fields, pine forests, and traditional villages. Tarakot, a historic fortress town, offers insight into the ancient trade routes of Dolpo. Overnight camping.
Today’s route passes through narrow gorges and dramatic river valleys, gradually gaining altitude. The trail remains wild and rarely traveled, enhancing the sense of true expedition adventure. Overnight at camp near Musi Khola.
The trail climbs steadily through remote terrain with expansive mountain views. Kagkot is a traditional high-altitude village, offering the first real sense of Himalayan isolation. Overnight camping.
A vital acclimatization day to allow the body to adjust to the increasing altitude. Optional short hikes to surrounding ridges aid acclimatization while offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Rest, hydration, and health monitoring are prioritized.
The trail ascends into alpine terrain, crossing yak pastures and wide valleys beneath towering Himalayan ridgelines. Panjing is one of the highest settlements in the region and serves as a key staging point for further acclimatization. Overnight camping.
A steady ascent leads to German Base Camp, named after early exploratory expeditions. The landscape becomes increasingly glaciated and rugged, offering dramatic mountain scenery. Overnight camping.
Over the next few days, the expedition advances carefully toward Putha Hiunchuli Base Camp, crossing moraine fields and glacial terrain. The Base Camp is established at a strategic location beneath the mountain, offering a safe and well-supported environment for acclimatization and summit preparation.
This extended climbing window allows for proper acclimatization rotations, load carries, route fixing, and summit attempts. Climbers ascend through progressively higher camps, adapting to altitude and conditions. The final summit push is carefully timed based on weather and team readiness. After reaching the summit of Putha Hiunchuli (7,246 m), the team descends safely back to Base Camp.
After dismantling Base Camp, the descent retraces the approach route, allowing the body to recover as altitude decreases. Overnight camping at Kagkot.
A continued descent through familiar terrain, returning to greener landscapes and warmer temperatures. Overnight camping.
The final trekking day brings the team back to Dunai. Celebrate the successful completion of the expedition with the support team. Overnight in Dunai.
Drive back to Jhupal, followed by scenic flights to Nepalgunj and onward to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel upon arrival.
A well-deserved rest day to recover, enjoy Kathmandu’s cultural highlights, and celebrate the expedition. Optional sightseeing, shopping, or farewell dinners can be arranged.
