Trip Overview

Himlung Himal is a prominent mountain in the Himalayas, located on the border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is part of the Mansiri Himal subrange of the greater Himalayan mountain system. With an elevation of 7,126 meters (23,379 feet) above sea level, Himlung Himal is classified as a “seven-thousander,” making it one of the high-altitude peaks that attract mountaineers seeking less crowded routes compared to the eight-thousanders.
Himlung Himal is a high Himalayan peak of moderate climbing traffic, known for its rugged terrain, strategic location in the Mansiri Himal, and significance to both mountaineers and the natural ecosystem.

Detailed Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the expedition team and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, participate in a welcome briefing and introduction to the expedition team, including guides and Sherpas.

This day is dedicated to expedition preparation. Activities include equipment inspection, final permit processing, and a detailed briefing on climbing strategy, safety protocols, and acclimatization schedules. Meet your climbing guides and support staff to discuss logistics and objectives.

Embark on a scenic drive of approximately 6–7 hours along the Trishuli River to Besisahar, the gateway to the Mansiri Himal region. Overnight in a local lodge, with opportunities to observe rural Nepali life along the route.

Continue your journey via rugged mountain roads to Koto. The drive offers panoramic views of terraced hills and traditional villages. Upon arrival, settle into local guesthouses and rest in preparation for trekking.

Begin trekking through highland villages and alpine terrain. The trek to Meta takes approximately 5–6 hours and involves moderate ascent. The route provides spectacular views of glaciers and surrounding Himalayan peaks. Overnight in Meta with tea house accommodation.

Trek for 4–5 hours through alpine landscapes, gradually ascending toward Kyang. This section includes forested paths, rivers, and small settlements. Overnight in Kyang; the pace ensures proper acclimatization.

Ascend for 4–5 hours through rugged terrain, crossing streams and small ridges. Arrive at Phu Gaun, a high-altitude village surrounded by towering peaks. Overnight in local lodges and preparation for acclimatization.

A crucial acclimatization day involving short hikes around Phu Gaun to improve oxygen adaptation. Optional exploration of the village and interaction with local inhabitants. Rest and hydration are emphasized.

Trek through moraine and glaciated terrain for approximately 6–7 hours to reach Himlung Base Camp. Camp setup, gear organization, and initial altitude adjustment begin here. Evening briefing on route conditions and summit strategy.

The expedition focuses on altitude acclimatization and climbing preparation:

  • Trek to Camp I (~5,800 m) and Camp II (~6,400 m) with return to Base Camp.
  • Load carries, rope fixing, and technical climbing practice on snow and ice slopes.
  • Daily health monitoring and route reconnaissance.
  • These rotations prepare climbers physically and mentally for the summit push.

Summit attempts are conducted based on weather and team readiness:

  • Ascend from Base Camp → Camp I → Camp II → Summit.
  • Technical climbing on steep snow slopes and glacier ridges.
  • Sherpa support, fixed ropes, and high-altitude camp facilities provided.
  • Successful summit climbers return to Base Camp; overnight rest follows each rotation.

Descend through alpine terrain to Meta, retracing part of the route. Trekking duration is approximately 5–6 hours. Overnight stay in Meta with rest and recovery.

Continue descending to Koto through terraced landscapes and village settlements. Overnight stay in local lodges, reflecting on the expedition’s progress.

Descend via motorable road to Besisahar. Enjoy scenic mountain and river views. Overnight stay in lodge; preparation for return to Kathmandu.

Drive back to Kathmandu, approximately 6–7 hours. Transfer to hotel and rest. Optional evening for souvenir shopping or exploration of Kathmandu’s cultural sites.

Celebrate the successful expedition with the team. Optional cultural activities, final equipment check, or sightseeing in the city. Farewell dinner with the expedition team.
